The Pros, Cons and list of
GSM Cell Phones

As more and more people travel, the demand for gsm cell phones increases. Taking a look at the advantages and disadvantages of gsm phones, you'll be able to find out for yourself if a gsm cell phone is right for you. First of all, you may be wondering what exactly are gsm cell phones, and to answer that question they're phones that work with either 900, 1800, or 1900 MHz frequencies. Different gsm signals are used in different countries all over the world. Since there is so much variation in gsm service frequencies, manufacturers designed cell phones that can use all three gsm frequencies: Triband cell phones.

Since, any of these frequencies either alone or combination can work in any international country, they are also referred to as world international cell phones.

The major advantage of having a gsm cell phone is the flexibility and freedom to use your cell phone worldwide. Although the roaming charges may be expensive you'll feel secure that you have a direct line to use in emergencies.

However if your gsm cellular phone was also unlocked you could buy the right SIM card for the country you're travelling to and be able to take advantage of the low rates like you have in America. These international cell phone plans offer these SIM cards and can work for several different countries at a time. This is the perfect solution for business trips and travellers that need to have a direct line to receive and make phone calls.

On the other hand, gsm cellphones do not have the same coverage area in America compared to CDMA and TDMA technology. In rural, isolated regions gsm towers may not exist and won't have a signal, so you maybe forced to roam. GSM technology has been around for sometime, and it's still growing rapidly. As service providers build more gsm towers, the coverage area issue will be eventually solved.

Side Note: Currently, T-Mobile has the largest gsm network and is recommended for gsm cell phone users. For more information on T-Mobile plans click here.
