AT&T Prepaid Wireless Service Review
AT&T prepaid wireless service goes by the name of AT&T Free2Go Wireless. As of April 2004, they
replaced their old prepaid plan with a new flat rate calling plan.
This means that whether you're making a local call or long distance,
at anytime it would be at the same rate.
If your looking for an emergency phone or you use very little
minutes per month, then try AT&T. Why? Well first of all they
don't charge a start up fee and they offer the cheapest way to
get your phone. For just $10 every 3 months, you can own your
own cell phone number. Of course that means you would only have
40 minutes to talk with, but you get the point. For $40 a year
it's the bare minimum required in the prepaid wireless industry.
You even won't feel ripped off because of you're not a big minute
user. All their refills range from $10 - $75 offering the same
$0.25 per minute rate.
Another good thing about prepaid AT&T wireless is the $100 refill.
I consider it the best prepaid option, better then anything Cingular
or Verizon has. With its 1 year expiry period that $100 can last
along time. This means that if you are planning to spend at least
$100 a year, you can get the $0.15 per minute rate.
So what are the disadvantages?
Not many but here is a quote from their fine print:
"If new funds are not added to your
account prior to the expiration date, any remaining funds will
be forfeited and you may lose your wireless number"
Nothing new there, you have to do a refill at least once every 3
months (or once a year for the $100 refill), or else you'll get
deactivated. They will charge you for a setup fee to reactivate
with the same phone number. The other drawback is that their prepaid
service only works with digital phones. They also don't have the
best wireless network, so call quality in certain areas may be worst
than others.
So overall we would give AT&T prepaid wireless service: 4.5/5
